English Language Learner's Culture Fest!
Friday May 6, 2016 marked a spectacular day of cultural celebration for the students of Merrymeeting Adult Education. Hosted and funded by Universalist Unitarian Church of Brunswick, ELL learners were able to prepare and present sumptuous traditional dishes for their community. As folks ate to their hearts content while chatting with friends old and new, the children took their best swings at the One-Eyed Minion Piñata who rewarded them by unleashing the sweet goodies inside.
It was a momentous experience bringing together individuals from a diverse span of cultures and generations. Cultures from India, Cambodia, Taiwan, China, Honduras, Brazil, Mexico, Hungary, Somalia, United States, Ireland, Japan, and Tibet were represented in the festivities.
Events like this makes us realize how lucky we are to live in such a colorful world and appreciate the unique qualities that we have to offer one another. We hope to see you all at our next event!
